Synthetic Turf Installation: Step-by-Step Guide

- Synthetic Turf Installation Guide
Prepare the Base
Begin by removing existing grass or debris and excavating about 4 inches to create a solid foundation. Next, layer 3 inches of compacted Class 2 road base to ensure proper drainage—vital for long-lasting turf performance and avoiding soggy patches. We recommend adding gopher wire and weed barrier for added protection against pests and weeds.
Unroll & Align Turf
Lay out your turf without dragging it across the base. Let it “relax” in the sun for 30–60 minutes to expand to its full size. Make sure all rolls are oriented with the blade direction and seam patterns consistent—this ensures a seamless professional finish.
Cut and Seam
Use a sharp utility or carpet knife to trim turf from the back, leaving about ¼″–½″ overlap at edges for clean borders. For multi-roll installs, align the seams carefully. Place seam tape along the seam center, apply adhesive in an “S” pattern on each side, then lay the turf and let the glue set for 15 minutes.
Secure the Perimeter
Tuck the turf edge into your border using a metal putty knife and hammer. Secure it with 5″ non-galvanized turf nails or staples every 6″ around the perimeter—don’t forget to reinforce seams too. This step ensures your installation remains stable under foot traffic or pet activity.
Add Proper Infill
The right turf accessories and tools support optimal turf performance. Choose an infill—Silica Sand, Zeolite, Acrylic Coated Sand, or Crumb Rubber—and use a drop spreader for even distribution. Infill enhances turf’s appearance, resilience, and cushioning under pressure.
Brush the Infill
Power brush the turf with synthetic bristles to stand up the fibers and evenly blend in the infill. This turf maintenance service restores the natural look and keeps it soft for kids, pets, and everyday use.

Helpful Pro Tips

Use knee pads and carpet kickers during installation to protect yourself and improve precision.
Brushing periodically restores texture—use synthetic brushes only, never wire.
Avoid open flames and heavy sharp objects—they can damage turf fibers.
